Dynamical Systems

There are several research activities of the Laboratory in which dynamical systems modeling figures prominently. Dynamical systems based approaches range from the discrete, for approximate modeling of particle trajectories, to finite dimensional continuous, for modeling Newtonian dynamics of granular systems, to infinite dimensional continuous (partial differential equations), for continuum models of governing equations of granular dynamics. The development and analysis of such models for a variety of granular flow regimes is a staple of many of the research efforts in the Laboratory, as an effective means of providing reliable predictions for the behavior of these flows.
